The Multicultural Centre Library is a special library focused on migration, ethnicity, integration, cultural interplay, xenophobia, racism and cultural diversity. These subjects are illuminated through books on education, linguistics, philosophy, medicine, folklore, religion, history, political science and more.
The library started out in the late 1980s and is owned by the Multicultural Centre. In the 1990s it was briefly run in collaboration with the Södertörn University College. In autumn 2000 its collection expanded by nearly 9,000 volumes from the old Swedish Immigration Board's library. Much of that material is unique and usually hard to find (so-called "grey" literature: investigations, essays and such).
In April 2003, the library moved to new facilities when the Multicultural Centre opened its new building, featuring the library, an exhibition hall, gallery, educational workshop, lecture hall and café.
Fiction
We also have a small collection of fiction, mainly in Swedish: Ernst Brunner, Emile Ajar, Isabel Allende, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Yasar Kemal, Li Li, Sharock Kamyab, Zadie Smith and many more.
The Botkyrka collection
This collection is under construction. It includes reports, investigations, essays, monographs, brochures and statistics on Botkyrka. Donations are welcomed.
This collection also features books on and by K.P. Arnoldson (Nobel Prize-winner, pacifist and station-master from Tumba).
Periodicals
The library has some 70 periodicals, mainly about our special areas. The periodicals may not be removed from the library, but can be photocopied.
Sounds and images
In addition to printed materials, the library also has video films and music CDs.
The library is open to everyone. You are welcome to borrow books, CDs and videos free of charge. You can get a library card for the Multicultural Centre library free of charge; bring a valid ID with you.
